Technical Product Manager Open vRAN



NEC is growing its 5G business internationally and is looking for a best-in-class senior product manager to lead its Open RAN products. NEC has been a pioneer and an early leader in Open RAN, with publicly announced deployments at some of the most advanced telecom networks such as Rakuten and Telefonica. Together with NEC’s 5G core and Netcracker’s orchestration systems, Open RAN is an important part of NEC’s growth in telecommunications.

The product manager Open RAN will have responsibility for the evolution of the Open RAN SW products roadmap, including NEC CU, DU and nearRT RIC products and their integration in NEC e2e solution.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities                                                

1) Collect requirements from sales, sales support, customers and prospects, partners and suppliers, standards and regulators and manage the requirements for its products.


2) Translate market requirements into technical requirements and guide, present, negotiate their implementation and availability with development teams, partners and suppliers.


3) Produce products roadmaps and product collaterals (product descriptions, solutions descriptions, product presentations, roadmap…)


4) Present product and assist in training sales and pre sales


5) Support sales and pre sales in customer presentations, RFx answers


6) Follow relevant standardization activities


7) Create, communicate, advocate product strategy for internal development, offshore development, partnership, licensing and acquisition


8) Create and manage product dimensioning, performance, pricing and associated tools


9) Reports and recommend product P&L strategy and results


10) Collaborate with product marketing and communication for the creation of marketing collaterals, attendance and support for conferences and trade shows





       Master of science, engineering degree in computer sciences or telecommunications preferred, MBA an asset but experience in lieu can be considered.


  • At least 3 years’ experience in RAN, preferably exposed to open RAN
  • 5 + years in product management or 5+ years in product or solutions architecture roles
  • 7+ years in telecommunications
  • Telecoms vendor or telecom operator experience
  • AWS, Microsoft, Google cloud experience appreciated
  • Agile / Lean methodologies and frameworks
  • Thorough understanding of telecommunications networks (4G, 5G), their components and workflow
  • Understanding of cloud native architectures, microservices, containers
  • Understanding of Radio Units hardware components
  • Understanding of hardware / software acceleration in telecoms (DPDK, SRIOV, ASICS, FPGA, GPU…)
  • Experience with standardization bodies like TIP forum, ONF, Linux foundation, 3GPP, ETSI…
  • Understanding of massive MIMO, Beamforming
