Summary


NEC’s Advanced Recognition Systems division is looking to add a talented Solutions Engineer to provide support across its Digital Gov ID, Aviation, Law Enforcement, and CX solutions suite.  Solutions Engineers utilize their technical, product, and domain knowledge to provide expertise and guidance to sales staff and customers throughout the entire lifecycle of a project. They are a critical piece to organizational and customer success.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provides general pre-sales technical support to Account Managers throughout the opportunity lifecycle
  • Provides onsite and/or remote customer-facing presentations and demonstrations
  • Consults with customers to understand their business needs and how NEC’s solution offerings can meet them
  • Designs and documents proposed solutions and associated architecture 
  • Stays current on the competitive landscape to properly understand NEC solution strengths and differentiators 
  • Continuously builds NEC product, biometrics, and market domain expertise
  • Solicits, develops, documents and manages requirements throughout project and/or application lifecycle up to and through change control
  • Facilitates collaborative reviews with developers and other subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs
  • Supports comprehensive project handoff process between the pre-sales and post-sales delivery teams
  • Develops strong working relationships with partners, consultants, and customers at a technical level
  • Serves as the technical liaison between Sales personnel, Engineering teams, and Product Management
  • Responds to the technical and/or product related portions of RFPs and other customer/consultant/security questionnaires
  • Actively collects customer and market-driven feedback and requirements for consideration within product roadmap(s)
  • Is able to work both collaboratively and independently with minimal guidance


Prerequisites


Education:    Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or similar plus a minimum of 6 years experience; advanced degree desirable
Experience:    6 or more years of customer-facing sales/solutions engineering or business analyst experience representing biometrics technology within the law enforcement and/or government space.  Experince with National ID systems and Identification Bureaus is highly desired.
Certifications, Licenses, etc:    VMware/Azure and other technical certifications a plus but not required

 

Specialized Knowledge and Skills


Language Skills:    Excellent communication/presentation skills and organizational ability required.  Presents oral and written communications in a professional and concise manner. 
Mathematical Skills:    Solid mathematical skills required
Reasoning Skills:    Ability to recognize problems, identify and analyze underlying causes, and implement appropriate solutions independently. 

 

Computer and/or Technical Skills

 

  • Working experience and knowledge of multimodal biometric identification systems (MBIS)
  • Working experience and knowledge of face, fingerprint, and iris modalities
  • Certifications and/or experience with VMware and other virtualization platforms
  • Certifications and/or experience with Microsoft Azure and other cloud platforms
  • Experience representing SaaS solutions
  • Technical proficiency within Windows and Linux environments
  • Familiarity with Docker and containerization
  • Basic networking knowledge
  • Proficiency across the Microsoft Office 365 suite of applications
  • Experience with JIRA and/or Microsoft TFS/Azure DevOps Server
  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience with iterative and development methodologies (e.g. BABOK, Scrum, XP, etc.)
  • Working knowledge and hands-on experience in the creation of key artifacts including user stories and functional/configuration specifications

 

Other Desired Skills

 

  • Understanding of government identity bureau environments whether civil or criminal
  • Understanding of modern biometrics technologies and providers
  • Experience working the entire lifecycle of a project from RFP to customer signoff
  • Experience working within a DevOps organization
  • Scrum and/or Scrum Master experience
