NEC is growing its 5G business internationally and is looking for a best-in-class technical writer to support its teams. NEC has been a pioneer and an early leader in Open RAN, with publicly announced deployments at some of the most advanced telecom networks such as Rakuten and Telefonica. Together with NEC’s 5G core and Netcracker’s orchestration systems, Open RAN is an important part of NEC’s growth in telecommunications. The technical writer will have the responsibility to investigate, collect and document the knowledge of the engineering team into a set of product and technology documentation frameworks for the global business.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities                                                                                           




1) Organize knowledge sharing sessions with relevant engineering resources to understand current product and documentation framework.


2) Translate Japanese product documentation into English.


3) Create a documentation framework for products and technologies


4) Recommend and maintain electronic documentation tools and frameworks (Jira, confluence, SharePoint…)


5) Maintain documentation up to date and publish latest iterations. Maintain change control and document versioning.


6) Help create and develop sales, pre sales, product management training material.


Education:  Bachelor or Masters of science, engineering degree in computer sciences, technology or telecommunications preferred, Communication, humanities degree or MBA an asset but experience in lieu can be considered.



  • Must be Japanese / English bilingual
  • At least 5 years’ experience in technical writing in telecommunications
  • 7+ years in telecommunications
  • Telecoms vendor or telecom operator experience
  • AWS, Microsoft, Google cloud experience appreciated
  • Good understanding of telecommunications networks (4G, 5G), their components and workflow
  • Understanding of cloud native architectures, microservices, containers
  • Understanding of Radio Units hardware components
  • Understanding of hardware / software acceleration in telecoms (DPDK, SRIOV, ASICS, FPGA, GPU…)
