Position: HCI Product Manager

 

NEC Enterprise Communication Technologies, Inc. (“NECECT”) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NEC Corporation.  The company develops and supports a wide range of solutions, including Unified Communications, Software-defined networking, Video Analytics and IoT.

 

Summary:

Provides product and solution expertise as a main business owner through product/solution management, business plans, sales presentations, product demonstrations, and solution sales training of IT products and services such as Hyper Converged Infrastructure (HCI) Solution and associated Could Service or Edge Computing Solution and Service. Works with product management team to execute the company’s and business unit’s strategies for NEC Branded business revenue growth. The individual will priority focus on NEC’s HCI Solutions (Including integration of core partnership like Microsoft S2D, VMware vSAN and Scale Computing at least) ) as core technologies, and then develop solutions by creating partnerships within and outside of our organization and company to integrate NEC’s IT & Network products (Software or Hardware), UC Application into a packaged solution focusing on some priority vertical like Hospitality, Healthcare or Education.  The individual will act as a key player working with cross functional teams, collaborating with NEC Japan Business Unit (BU), product management team, Technical team, Unified Communication (UC) solution team, UnivergeBlue cloud service team and other departments to ensure that milestones and objectives are achieved. May provide follow-up support to partner and customer personnel by disseminating product & sales value information on specific applications.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

70% - Product & Business Management - Responsible for all Product Management for NEC’s HCI Solutions and associated edge / cloud services. (UnivergeBlue)

 

NEC’s HCI solution consists of NEC High Density Server (D120 series), HCI software (Scale Computing HC3, VMware vSAN, Nutanix, Microsoft S2D etc) in Americas and RuEMEA (Russia, Europe, Middle East and Africa). The solution scope includes VDI, Edge Computing, more integrated value added solution such as UC on HCI, Backup solution for HCI, SD-WAN for HCI etc.

 

Product Management roles for the above solution and service include;

 

  • Collecting and understanding the customer’s needs (directly, or through sales or partners) as well as competitive product information (directly, or through sales, partners, and analysts).
  • Development and ownership of the Marketing Requirements Document (MRD) which includes:

Product Vision: To identify and solidify a product vision through the collaboration of key management and industry visionaries. The product vision includes a SWOT analysis and takes into consideration the resources available or potentially available within the company.

Market Identification & Opportunity: Outlines the TAM (Total Available Market) and identifies the specific segments which the product will penetrate. This can include specific industries, or more generally, cross-industry common problems needing to be solved by the product. Also, identifies targeted market penetration with top line and bottom line financial contribution.

Product Positioning: Defines positioning (i.e., how we want the target market to “perceive” the product). Product positioning includes the establishment of: Competitive product differentiation/positioning(s); Unique selling propositions (USP); or Key features and benefits. Product positioning must be established for each new version of each product produced. Add-on components for a product do not need separate product positioning defined. The full product positioning is specified in a Product Positioning Document (PPD).

Product Definition: Defines the product in terms of orderable items and pricing using the competitive analysis for justification of market pricing. This includes details used by manufacturing and service to fulfill the delivery of the product against orders.

Warranty & Service Programs: Defines the base warranty levels required to support the product as well as the optional service programs available for premium service.

Cross Divisional Interaction: Defines the organizations that are required to support the product and identifies the schedule of interaction.

Pricing: Defines pricing strategy, with discounts for channels as well as promotional (demo systems) and associated terms.

 

  • Develop proposed target solution and value proposition
  • Develop business plan framework (including SWOT) justifying engagement
  • Develop engagement plan by creating strategy to establish and build partner relationships including: organization charts, identifying key individuals, and build time lines to evaluate the joint NEC technology solution
  • Inventory Management: Works with staff to reviews and modify the monthly production forecast submitted by Sales, appraises and provides factory forecast. Manages the inventory and provides direction regarding end of life as well as inventory reserves to finance.
  • Training: Responsible for the definition, direction and execution of sales training material.
  • Recommending process and service changes, designed to improve customer experience
  • Leads project teams to achieve program milestones and objectives
  • Work with NPI (New Product Introduction), Operations team & global alliance team to implement product/solution delivery process.

 

20% - Marketing & Sales Support - Responsible for all aspects of Product Marketing and Sales Support including;

  • Working closely with the Corporate Marketing staff (Americas & RuEMEA) to ensure production information and positioning is appropriately described through NEC communication vehicles.
  • Developing in collaboration with PSCI (Technical/SE tem) white papers that describe the advanced features and case studies associated with the technical & solution design philosophy of the NEC’s new IT solutions (Cloud, HCI, Edge Computing, VDI etc.), and the value of the products (High Density Server etc).
  • Attending industry events and act as a subject matter expert and visionary for the company
  • Managing content for marketing events for technical and business audiences.
  • Work closely with NEC’s Sales and channel partners to provide and deliver sales presentations and competitive positioning (With a strict ‘channel ready’ program approach)
  • Work closely with 3rd parties & engineering to develop best practice guide supporting target applications
  • Generate sales tip sheets used by partners as well as monthly product information update for sales and partners
  • To assist in product customer acceptance through a customer Evaluation Program in order to find all possible product problems before shipping

 

5% - Provides input to the management team and NEC Japan BU on leading edge technologies, products, and services to meet current and future customer needs.

5% - Provides sales & marketing training to Engineering, Technical Support, Sales Engineering, Sales, and partners, including resellers of our products and services.

 

Prerequisites:

Education: BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

Experience: Minimum 10 years’ experience in IT industry, responsible for multiple products and solutions. Minimum 5years hands-on experience in product management product marketing, or pre-sales support for HCI solution and/or Cloud service 

Specialized Knowledge and Skills – Product Management & Presentation skills

Language Skills: Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, including technical writing and the ability to create and deliver clear, concise presentations. Professional appearance and presentations required in front of small and large audiences.

Mathematical Skills: Basic Math

Reasoning Skills: Must be a self-starter and able to work independently, yet able to work with all levels in the organization. Must be highly organized; productive on tight schedules; understand complex sales and product solution environments where partners as well as end users are involved; and determine the most effective approach to success.

 

Computer and/or Technical Skills: Understanding of Server; Storage; Software; Network; Operating Systems and Communication products. Must understand virtualization & Cloud / Multicloud / Edge technology. Must be competent with MS-Office, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
