Senior Sales Engineer (UC/UCaaS Solutions)

Summary 

The Senior Sales Engineer is responsible for selling telecom/Unified Communication products and services with technical engineering. Serves as the technical liaison to our sales teams, clients & partners with regards to any sales-related service, support and engineering issues. Often responsible for the most highly complex and most difficult to close sales. Assists management in devising plans and strategies to support selling to clients. Works with the customer, production and engineering departments of the company to help design solutions and services to suit the customer's needs. This involvement requires excellent people skills and the ability to build relationships and communicate with people easily and confidently.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • 65% Performs sales activities for an assigned geographic area or product/service line with technical engineerings to achieve or exceed assigned revenue objectives. 

    • Contacts and visits prospective customers to determine needs. 

    • Creates and performs sales presentations to match the company's products/services with identified technical needs. 

    • Sells products/services through face-to-face contact with technical engineering.

    • Remains knowledgeable of the company's products/services to facilitate sales efforts. 

    • Often responsible for the highly complex and most difficult to close sales.

  • 20% Maintains regular contact with customers to ensure satisfaction.

    • Maintains a regular schedule of contact via phone/on-site visits.

    • Alerts clients to new or improved products/services.

    • Develops relationships with clients by providing excellent customer services.

    • Relays client feedback to product development staff.

  • 15% Assists management in devising direct sales plans and strategies.

    • Assists management in determining effective sales techniques.

    • Determines ways to differentiate from competitors.

    • Works with management to identify up-sell opportunities.

    • Assists marketing with design and promotional strategies.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills 

  • Language Skills: Sales engineers need excellent written and oral language and presentation skills.

    • Experience presenting to groups of people is helpful.

  • Mathematical Skills: Solid mathematical background is required. 

    • Algebra, trigonometry and calculus are all beneficial.

    • Study in the fields of electronics and data communications are also beneficial.

  • Reasoning Skills: Logical analytical thinking is critical for positions in sales engineering. 

    • Problem-solving ability is a must.

  • Computer and/or Technical Skills: VOIP and Networking experience is required.

 

Prerequisites 

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent training in engineering - IT related, business or sales management.

  • Experience: Usually requires 6 or more years of sales experience. 

    • High level of knowledge of the company's products/services and pricing practices.

    • Excellent selling skills.

    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Professional appearance and presentation required

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands 

  • General Work Environment: Home Office 

  • Noise: Typical office environment.

  • Standing/Lifting: Not required on a regular basis. 

    • Some heavy equipment lifting for trade shows.

  • Visual:  Ability to work in front of a PC screen for an entire day is necessary.

  • Stress: Can be high at sales closings

  • Travel: Can be over 50% travel.

 

The anticipated salary range for this position is $99,000 to $124,000; depending upon the selected candidate’s relevant experience, the exact salary for the role may fall outside of this range. This role will also be eligible to participate in the Company’s bonus/incentive program(s).
