Summary -

In this critical role, the Principal SW Architect will work with senior leadership, Product Management, and globally distributed Engineering teams to define and implement NECAM’s next generation platform and services. The Principal SW Architect will set the architectural strategy for a cloud-based platform consisting of light weight services that enable innovative market specific biometric solutions to be created for Aviation, Law Enforcement, Customer Experience, and National Security. This role will require collaboration with North American and global engineering teams. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities -

50% Define and drive the architectural vision for a next generation biometrics management platform that enables flexibility, accelerates solution development, and lowers deployment cost and complexity

• Define cloud computing policy, cloud solution architecture and cloud governance process
• Assist with defining requirements and architecture necessary to meet performance, capacity, scalability, availability, and security objectives
• Contribute significantly to product roadmaps, estimation, planning, identification of risks and issues, and development status.
• Contribute to design patterns for breaking existing monoliths
• Develop deep relationships with key Engineering, Product Management, and IT decision makers, who drive long-term cloud adoption within the company to enable them to be cloud advocates

25% Maintains and enhances technology expertise, keeping current cloud, infrastructure, tools, etc.

• Investigate and advise on third-party integrations, and develop requirements and architecture associated with external interfaces, protocols, interoperability, compatibility, and coexistence with other applications.
• Research, evaluate new cloud services, capabilities, industry trends and emerging technologies

25% Collaborate on decisions, resolving conflicts and ensuring follow-through with exceptional verbal and written communication skills

Provide governance and consulting on architecture to all software development teams

• Collaborate with global stakeholders; Provide mentoring and direction to other architects and engineering teams
• Cheerleader and advisor for DevOps, DevSecOps, and the complete automation of build and test pipelines
• Advocate for Lean/Agile methodologies

Prerequisites -

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

Experience:

Requires 10+ years of software development experience, including at least 5 as a Architect. Must have experience successfully refactoring monolith on-premise applications to public cloud, balancing the ‘text book’ solution against ROI and customer value.  Expert in cloud agnostic OpenSource frameworks and Azure managed services.  Must have experience in scalability, failover, high availability, capacity planning, security, and compliance. 

Certifications, Licenses, etc:

Public cloud vendor certifications in topics such as Well Architected Framework, Secure Infrastructure, FaaS, Serverless, etc

Specialized Knowledge and Skills -

Language Skills:

Demonstrated ability to effectively work with and support customers.  Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Reasoning Skills:

Must be a self-starter and able to recognize and resolve issues dependably and effectively.   Excellent project leadership skills.  Must be self-motivated with strong attention to details.

Technical Skills:

Excellent in-depth working knowledge of public cloud (primarily Azure) architectures and systems.  Must be fluent in the relevant programming languages and environments.  Proficient in all aspects of the software development lifecyle (including analysis, design, development, testing, implemention and support).
