Receives requests for quotes and purchase requisitions for goods/services from NEC divisions Prepares purchase orders and contacts suppliers to confirm commercial trade terms, delivery schedules and shipping instructions. Processes purchase orders as prescribed by established procedures and maintains contact with suppliers to ensure best possible service. Learns to negotiate contract terms/conditions.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • 50% Receives requests for quotes for goods / services from NEC divisions.  Reviews material requirements and contact appropriate suppliers to obtain quotes on goods / services. Analyzes quotes received from suppliers to ensure the lowest possible cost at the highest quality and submit quotes to NEC division for review. Processes purchase orders as prescribed by established procedures. Conducts low level negotiations with suppliers under supervision.
  • 30% Monitors order / shipments to ensure timely delivery of goods / services from suppliers. Supports the integrity of the supplier master file, item master file and product classification databases. Maintains relationship with suppliers to ensure open communication and best possible services.
  • 10% Assists Trade Compliance to ensure proper export classification and licensing requirements are satisfied. Resolves low complexity shipment/invoice discrepancy matters with suppliers.
  • 10% Prepares reports to keep management informed of purchasing activities, problems, delays, etc. Stays current with relevant purchasing / international trade trends and contract negotiating techniques / strategies. Participates in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.



  • Education: Associate degree in Business Administration or the equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum of one year procurement experience required for a basic knowledge of business practices / operations, purchasing / shipping procedures and U.S. export trade regulations
  • Certifications, Licenses, etc: None required.


Specialized Knowledge and Skills

  • Language Skills: Solid fundamental verbal and written skills in English and Japenese.  Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
  • Mathematical Skills: Basic application of math skills.
  • Reasoning Skills: Some analytical skills required.
  • Computer and/or Technical Skills:    


Work Environment and Physical Demands 

  • General Work Environment: General office environment.
  • Noise: Moderate noise level.
  • Standing/Lifting: Regularly required to sit and occasionally required to stand. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision when using computer and reviewing documents.
  • Stress: Minimum stress to meet deadlines.
  • Travel: No travel required.
  • Supervisory Responsibility, if any: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
